(Bloomberg) -- The Indonesian rupiah weakening to 16,800
per dollar is a very near-term risk if authorities aren’t able
to stem the decline, according to Mizuho Bank.
* “16,800 is a very near-term risk if the buckles are not
backstopped,” says Vishnu Varathan, head of economics and
strategy at the bank. “Beyond which 17,000 may be the next level
targeted”
* “This will probably trigger Bank Indonesia’s response. So some
two-way volatility is the warning for speculators positioned
aggressively one-way”
* “The long holidays definitely accentuate investor concerns
over Indonesia, prompting precautionary liquidation of some
trading positions and that’s hitting the currency”
